Psychological Assessments

Theracare offers a range of specialist psychological assessments to support understanding, diagnosis, and informed decision-making across clinical, educational, and social care contexts. All assessments are conducted with clinical rigour, clarity, and care and tailored to the needs of the individual.

We provide:

Biopsychosocial and Diagnostic Reports

Comprehensive reports exploring developmental history, emotional and behavioural presentation, and contextual factors. Often used for CAMHS referrals, EHCP evidence, therapeutic planning, or diagnostic clarification.

Autism Assessments (ADOS-2 and ADI-R)

Structured observational assessments using the ADOS-2 and ADI-R framework to identify traits consistent with Autism Spectrum Conditions in children and adolescents. Can be integrated into wider diagnostic processes or used to inform educational support.

Cognitive Assessments (WISC-V)

Standardised assessment of intellectual functioning, processing speed, working memory, and verbal/non-verbal reasoning. Helpful in identifying learning needs, strengths, and barriers to progress.

Risk Assessments: AIM3 and AIM Under-12s

Specialist assessments for children and adolescents who have displayed harmful sexual behaviour (HSB). Used to inform risk formulation, safety planning, and intervention pathways. Delivered with clinical sensitivity and in line with multi-agency safeguarding frameworks.

Turnaround & Access

Reports are typically completed within 2–4 weeks of final assessment sessions. Referrals are accepted from schools, parents, social care, and professionals. All assessments are conducted in line with ethical and safeguarding guidelines.

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (MBCBT)

Mindfulness-Based CBT integrates principles of cognitive behavioural therapy with mindfulness practice. It is particularly effective if you’re experiencing anxiety, recurrent depression, stress, or emotional overwhelm.

MBCBT helps you become more aware of your thoughts and feelings in the present moment without judgment. Rather than trying to change your thoughts directly, this approach helps you change your relationship to them — reducing reactivity and promoting greater emotional balance.

You’ll learn to observe unhelpful patterns, pause before reacting, and respond with more intention. Sessions may include simple mindfulness practices, breathing techniques, and practical tools to manage everyday stressors. MBCBT is collaborative and experiential, and the skills you develop can support ongoing wellbeing long after therapy ends. It’s especially helpful if you tend to overthink, self-criticise, or emotionally shut down.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy is an evidence-based approach designed to support people who experience intense emotions, chronic distress, or patterns of self-destructive behaviour. It was originally developed for individuals with borderline personality disorder (BPD), but is now widely used to support emotional dysregulation, trauma responses, self-harm, and interpersonal difficulties.

DBT combines acceptance strategies (helping you tolerate distress and understand where you are) with change strategies (developing tools to respond more effectively). It’s a structured therapy grounded in four key areas:

  • Mindfulness – learning to observe and regulate your thoughts and emotions

  • Distress Tolerance – managing crisis situations without making things worse

  • Emotion Regulation – understanding, naming, and shifting difficult emotions

  • Interpersonal Effectiveness – communicating your needs clearly and maintaining boundaries

DBT is collaborative and practical, with weekly skills practice and in-session learning. It’s especially helpful if you feel “too much, too fast” and want to regain a sense of control and safety in your inner world.

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy is a goal-directed, future-focused therapeutic approach. Rather than exploring problems in depth, SFBT helps you identify strengths, resources, and small actionable steps that move you closer to your preferred future.

This therapy may be well-suited for you if you’re feeling stuck but unsure how to begin making change. It is especially useful for stress, low motivation, mild depression, life transitions, and workplace or relational issues.

In SFBT, we focus on what’s working — not just what’s not. Together, we’ll build on your past successes, existing skills, and capacity to find meaningful solutions. The work is brief, targeted, and empowering.
